Right now, I have three trips to the fair planned. Sunday, Mike and I are running the State Fair 5k with my BFF Rachel. After the race we'll have breakfast at the fair, which may include a trip to one of the dining halls or a helping of Cini Minis. Then Friday we are going to take the day off and do the fair like it's our job (i.e. get there at 8 am) and we have Prairie Home Companion tickets with Rachel and her sis. Then there will be a short trip to the fair with my mom, sister, Ben, Art and Lewis.
Mike and I always like to have a date night at the fair where we go after work and have dinner and enjoy some music at the Leinie Lodge bandshell or catch the talent show. And to continue my streak of unflattering photos, here's one of me eating (those are never flattering) a dark chocolate covered marshmellow on a stick with a large lemonade (my favorite and one of the best deals at the Fair).

For schizzle, I am beyond excited! I don't know what your husband's concern with Olympics v State Fair is. There can BE only ONE! State Fair by a landslide.
(Make sure to check out my rainwater garden outside the EcoExperience Building. I'm hoping the plants look better than last year)
for anyone who doesn't understand the magnitude of goodness regarding the world's greatest turkey sandwich: i don't even really like the fair, yet since introduction by emily to said sandwich several years ago, i have always made a point to get there at least once. i've been known to walk straight to the sandwich, down some ice cold milk next door, and then leave. it's that good.
where does one find these turkey sandwiches??? that's going to be my first meal at the Fair this year! i don't want to take any chances on a food that is unproven!
I have even eaten two world's greatest turkey sandwiches (aka "best darn bird") in a row. But, you know me, I like sandwiches ;)
And yes, they are at Turkey to Go, where the side of the building says "best darn bird" which somehow translated to "world's greatest turkey sandwich" in my brain a long time ago and now that is what I call it, and so do my friends. They should consider changing the name.
Chef Andrew hated on the turkey sandwiches when we talked to him at the Fox 9 booth (but added if we like it, then that's all that matter).
He and I did share much love for the gizmo. If I had to choose gizmo v. turkey sandwich, it's gizmo.
I have to admit that I'm so-so about the turkey sandwich. However I LOVE turkey leg, and I also enjoyed key lime pie on a stick a few years back. If they still have that I would go for it in a heartbeat. Oh, and of course, corn. Gotta have the corn.
I love the turkey sandwich and will eat one soon. EAT IT.
